1915 E145 Cracker Jack #88 Christy Mathewson

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,525

Graded EX 5 by PSA. Bright and crisp example of Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson from the extremely popular 1915 E145 Cracker Jack series, with some light caramel staining as is the case with cards that were actually issued with boxes of Cracker Jack. This card has outstanding color, an extremely bold red background, almost perfect centering, and just the slightest hint of wear to each corner. If not for the light caramel staining, which is modest but can be seen (more easily seen from reverse), this card would no doubt grade higher. One could argue that the light hints of caramel staining are especially worthy of tolerance on a Cracker Jack card. This is a very attractive card that would be a very welcome addition to any high-quality collection of Cracker Jack, Christy Mathewson, or Hall of Fame cards. It is always interesting to see extremely attractive, high-quality 1915 Cracker Jacks that have obviously come from boxes of Cracker Jacks, as is the case with this example, as opposed to from factory sets. SMR value for the assigned grade is $1,850. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $3,525
