1912 T207 Brown Background Louis Lowdermilk - PSA EX-MT 6
Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $7,638
Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. One of only three examples graded at this level by PSA, with just one graded higher. Crisp, clean, extraordinarily high grade example of T207 Louis Lowdermilk, one of the legendary rarities of tobacco cards. Extremely striking and desirable red "Cycle Cigarettes" advertising reverse. The card displays a striking image, with just a hint of light wear on the corners (more so on the bottom left), and 70/30 top-to-bottom centering (centering problems are a common characteristic of T207s). The slightest hint of a surface wrinkle through the word "Cigarettes" on the reverse can be detected only upon extremely close examination. Lowdermilk has long been recognized as the key rarity of the T207 brown background tobacco-card series. In the 1930s, in the original American Card Catalog by Jefferson Burdick, Lowdermilk was listed as rarer and more valuable than any other card in the T207 set. (At that time, its value was listed at $1. The T206 Wagner was listed at $50.) Today collectors recognize many cards as being of various degrees of rarity in the T207 set, but Lowdermilk will always be the most famous key rarity of the classic T207 set. This is a magnificent high-grade example of one of tobacco-card collecting's legendary rarities and the highest-graded T207 Lowdermilk we have ever see or offered. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000+.
