1887 N690 Kalamazoo Bats Denny Lyons

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,231

Graded VG 40 by SGC. High-grade Kalamazoo Bats card of A's outfielder Denny Lyons in a batting pose. Exceptional contrast. This is an ideal example with tremendous detail, showcasing the Philadelphia ballpark's grandstands in the background, which is one of the trademark characteristics of Kalamazoo Bats. This is a magnificent card which we would give a higher grade to then that assigned by SGC: we grade this card Vg-Ex. It is perfectly clean front and back, with just only the slightest hint of very light wear on the corners, and a few lines of bunching from the manufacturing process in the middle of the bottom border that are insignificant and appear as a few extremely small light surface creases. The blank back has some very light soiling on the top right portion of the card and another light spot near the middle, but is otherwise perfectly clean. This is an ideal sample card in high-grade from one of the nineteenth century's most fascinating and highly prized sets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+.
