1912 T202 Hassan Triple Folder "Ty Cobb Steals Third" Cobb/Jennings

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,938

Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Of the 116 examples of this card graded to date, only seven examples have ever been graded higher by PSA. Exceptionally attractive high-grade example of the key classic Ty Cobb card from the T202 Hassan Triple Folders set. The "Ty Cobb Steals Third" center-panel card, with Ty Cobb and Hugh Jennings on the end panels, is the premier card featuring Cobb in the T202 set. In the eyes of most collectors, this is the card that defines the T202 set, the classic combination of center and end-panels. T202 Triple Folders are one of the most condition sensitive prewar issues, and are often downgraded due to the most minute flaws that are characteristic of the issue. That is why a PSA EX-MT 6 Triple Folder is statistically a far better card, and often has a far superior appearance, than a PSA EX-MT 6 card from many other vintage sets. The offered example is bright and crisp, with four square corners, and vibrant colors. Centered 35/65 L/R and 40/60 T/B. The very subtle irregular natural cut along the top and bottom (very difficult to see but present on this card) is not uncommon with T202s due to their method of production. This strong high-grade key T202 example would be a worthy addition to any advanced tobacco, Ty Cobb, or classic prewar-card collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,938
