1911 T205 Gold Border Dolly Gray SGC-Graded Variations (2)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,528

Presented are two examples (both variations) of Dolly Gray in the T205 Gold Border set. This card was issued with and without Gray's 1910 statistics on the reverse (the variations are checklisted in The Standard Catalog as 80a and 80b). Both graded and encapsulated by SGC: 1) Stats on back (SGC VG/EX 50). This variation is the rarer of the two, and one of the most difficult to obtain of all T205 Gold Borders. This is a solid Vg-Ex example, with evenly rounded corners, bright colors, no creases, and a clean image. 2) No stats on back (SGC EX/NM 80). Perfectly centered example, with bold colors, flawless registration, sharp corners with a hint of wear at the extreme tips, and a tiny chip of wear in the center of the bottom edge. The reverse has a small production-related print mark above the Sweet Caporal advertisement. There appears to be no formal consensus of value in guides on these T205 variation rarities. We have estimated the cards very conservatively and are confident the auction process will provide clarity with reference to value. Total 2 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000.
