1910 E93 Standard Caramel Collection Including Five Honus Wagners (81 cards incl 44 HOFers)

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $11,163

Collection of eighty-one assorted (including twenty-five different of the thirty cards in the set) E93 Standard Caramel cards. This is an amazing mostly low-grade group with an extremely high concentration of Hall of Famers. The eighty-one cards in the lot include an extraordinary forty-four Hall of Famers, highlighted by five Honus Wagners, two Christy Mathewsons, and three Cy Youngs. The condition ranges from Poor to Vg. We have selected fifteen cards to be graded by SGC (submitted by REA). Hall of Famer and SGC Grading Report (44 Hall of Famers): three Brown (Gd, Fr, Pr), Chance (Fr), five Clarke (SGC VG 40, Fr, three Pr), three Evers (two Fr and Pr), five Griffith (SGC GOOD 30, Fr, three Pr), Jennings (Pr), three Joss (SGC VG 40, Pr-Fr, Pr), four Lajoie (SGC VG 40, two Fr, Pr), two Mathewson (both SGC POOR 10), three Plank (all Pr), two Tinker (SGC GOOD 30 and Pr-Fr), four Waddell (Gd, two Fr, Pr), five Wagner (two SGC GOOD 30 and three POOR 10), and three Young (all SGC POOR 10). The balance of the cards in this collection (35 cards) grade as follows: seven cards range in grade from Gd to Vg; thirty are lesser (ranging from Poor to Fr-Gd). These cards are part of one of the most substantial original-owner caramel card collections we have ever offered. The entire collection of over 350 1910-era candy cards (plus over 200 tobacco cards) have been consigned to this auction (all appear in the Internet-only section of the auction), and have been saved for decades by the family of the original owner. The 30-card E93 set was issued in 1910 by the Standard Caramel Co. of Lancaster, PA. This set is closely related to several other candy sets from the era which share the same format and, in many cases, the same player image. This collection has an extremely impressive concentration of key Hall of Famers and includes a near-complete set (25 of 30 cards) of one of the most popular and colorful of all "E" card issues. While the group does include some many very low-grade cards, included are many very attractive cards having far superior eye-appeal than their technically accurate grades. The equivalent SMR value for the just the fifteen SGC-graded cards (not including the sixty-six ungraded cards) is $7,540. Total 81 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $11,163
