1966 Topps Test Flipper #3 "World's Most Famous Dolphin"
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $353
The 1966 Topps "Flipper" test issue, comprised of thirty cards, is one of the rarest of all nonsport sets from the 1960s (or any era). Presented is the key card from the set: card #3 entitled "World's Most Famous Dolphin" graded VG 3 by PSA. We refer to this as the key card not because of its extreme rarity (that is a given with all cards from this set) but because this card actually features Flipper, the star of the show and the "World's Most Famous Dolphin." Just to provide an idea of exactly how rare the cards from this set are: only forty-five examples have ever been graded by PSA and none by SGC. The card is bright, crisp, and clean, with an Nr/Mt-Mt appearance but has been downgraded because of two light creases, which have no impact on the outstanding eye appeal. For those who have never seen a card from this set (which includes just about everybody), the back has a portion of a puzzle which when assembled features a scene from the show (we can't tell you what the scene is - the cards are too rare). This is actually the first card from this set we have ever offered. This is an exceptional example from this very well known and incredibly rare 1960s Topps test issue. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $353
