High-grade 1935-1971 Nonsport "Key" Card PSA-Graded Collection (70)

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $4,700

Presented is one of the most unusual and interesting nonsport card collections we have ever offered as a single lot! Exciting and carefully assembled collection of seventy nonsport cards issued by Gum Inc., Topps, Bowman, Philadelphia Gum, and Leaf, spanning the years 1935 to 1971, with representation of thirty-three different quality nonsport issues, comprised exclusively of key cards. All are high-grade gems graded NM-MT 8 by PSA (with the exception of four NM or NM+, and three SGC-graded NM-MT or NM-MT+). All are "signature" cards from their respective sets that most often represent the set to collectors. This is a simply outstanding and stunning collection of the most classic high-demand nonsport cards from their respective sets (the nonsport equivalent of a collection of key cards such as 1933 Goudeys of Babe Ruth and 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, if this were a baseball card collection) all in high grade, assembled by a longtime advanced collector over a period of many years. It is not an accident that every card in this collection is a highlight and is one of, if not the most, highly regarded and prized card in the set. That is the theme of the collection! No expense was spared in assembling this nonsport key-card collection in high grade. It is truly a collection unto itself; we believe that years from now collectors will look back on this group and marvel that all of these key cards were ever offered in such extraordinary high grade as a collection. Each card is graded and encapsulated by PSA (except three SGC). 1) 1935 R89 "Mickey Mouse" (2 cards): #4 "Watch! It's A Snap!" (NM-MT 8, type 2, highest graded) and 74 "Striking Fellow, Isn't He?" (NM-MT 8, highest graded). 2) 1936 R60 Gum, Inc. "G-Men & Heroes of the Law" (1 card): #206 "Blood On The Moon" (NM-MT 8, highest graded). 3) 1938 R69 Gum, Inc. Tremendous and very carefully assembled collection comprised of seventy high-quality nonsport cards from thirty-three different extremely popular nonsport sets. The SMR value for the fifty-nine cards in the collection (not including eleven cards [1936 G-Men, 1944 American Beauties, 1965 Battle, 1965 James Bond, 1966 Get Smart, and 1966 Tarzan] which are not currently listed in the SMR price guide) is $5,405. However, it should be noted that it is often the case that the premium values for the most desirable and sought-after cards in most nonsport card sets are not accurately reflected by the SMR; it is easy to look up auction results to see that it is common for the most desirable cards from almost all classic nonsport sets to sell for a significant premium (in many cases a multiple) of price-guide values, as they are often not distinguished in guides from other cards in the set. (Years ago it was the same with baseball cards!) This collection is comprised exclusively of the most desirable cards (the equivalent of the Mickey Mantles and Babe Ruths) of all of the represented classic nonsport card sets. Total 70 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $4,700
