1938 R69 Gum, Inc. "Horrors of War" PSA-Graded Collection (154)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,231

Extremely substantial collection of 154 mid- to high-grade 1938 "Horrors of War" cards (130 different of the 288 in the set), each graded and encapsulated by PSA. Issued by Gum, Inc., “Horrors of War” is perhaps the single most famous nonsport-card set ever issued. The exceptionally colorful graphics and politically charged descriptions on their reverses also made this series one of the most controversial sets ever issued. The PSA grades are as follows: Two NM-MT 8 (OC): #196 and 222. Eight NM 7: #17, 110, 118 (OC), 124 (OC), 179, 187 (OC), 207, and 233. Thirty-six EX-MT 6: #7, 13, 20, 29, 34, 41, 84 (OC), 86, 87, 98, 119, 126, 128 (OC), 137 (OC), 138, 164, 170, 172, 174, two 183, 200, 204 (MC), 214, 215, 220, 226, 227, 232, 236 (MC), 242, 245 (MK), 250, 258, 261, and 272. One EX+ 5.5: #134. Sixty-three EX 5: #17, 21, 26, 28, 40, 42, 43, 46, 47 (MC), two 59, 64, 65, 70, 71, 73, two 75, 79, 87, 91, 92, 94, 98, 101, two 104, 105, 107, 111, 123, 134, 139, 143, 144, 147, two 151, 155, 156, 157, 158, two 159, 160, 168, 170, 171, 181, 189, 190, 192, 199, 201, 202, 212, 239, 245, 254, 259, 263, 271, and 274. Two VG-EX+ 4.5: #66 and 133. Thirty-four VG-EX 4: #3, 16, 27, 33, 37, 42, 44, 53, 56, 60, 62, 71, 78, 91, 92, 93, 101, 102, 103, 121, 127, 132, 133, 147, 151, two 152, 163, 196, 264, 270, 276 (MK), and two 282 High #. Seven VG 3: #35, 46, 185, 262, 279 High #, 281 High # (MK), and 284 High #. One GOOD 2: #252. This is a very attractive collection, representing an extraordinary foundation for the assembly of a complete PSA-graded set, with many cards in particularly high grade and worthy of inclusion in any world-class "Horrors of War" set or nonsport-card collection. The total SMR value for the group (not including the qualified cards) is $2,644. Total 154 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,231
