Collection of 114 1910-era tobacco cards including forty-two Hall of Famers (among them Mathewson, Lajoie, Joss, and Speaker). The collection is comprised of fifteen T205 "Gold Borders," seventy-five T206 "White Borders," and twenty-four additional tobacco cards (one T204, four T207s, nine T213-2s, one T222, five T212s, and four C46s). Many of these cards have an appearance far superior to their technically accurate assigned grades. 1) T205 Gold Borders (15 cards): Five cards are Vg including Dougherty (white sock emblem, Sovereign back), eight are Gd including Hall of Famers Huggins and McGraw (Sovereign back), and two lesser (Hall of Famers Baker and Speaker). 2) T206 White Borders (75 cards): Twenty cards are Vg including Lajoie (portrait); twenty-five Fr-Gd including Bender (portrait), Brown (portrait), Chance (batting), Howard (Southern Leaguer), Jennings (both hands), Kelley, Lajoie (throwing), Lajoie (bat), Marquard (port.), McGinnity, and Perdue (Southern Leaguer); twenty-one Pr including Bender (portrait), Bresnahan (portrait), Chance (portrait), Clarke (bat), Collins (Phila.), Joss (portrait), Keeler (portrait ), Keeler (bat), Lajoie (throwing), two Mathewson (dark cap, one with Polar Bear back), McGraw (finger in air), McGraw (glove, Tolstoi back), Speaker (Polar Bear back), Tinker (bat off, Polar Bear back), Tinker (hands on knees), Tinker (portrait), Waddell (portrait), Wallace, Walsh, and Willis (bat); and nine trimmed including Evers (portrait) and Thebo (Southern Leaguer). 3) T204 Ramly (1 card): Lindaman (Pr); T207 Brown Background (4 cards): Bender (HOF, Pr), Chance (HOF, Pr), Fromme (Pr), and Marquard (HOF, Gd); T213-2 Coupon (9 cards): Two cards are Vg, two are Gd including Hall of Famer Bender (trees), and five lesser including Hall of Famers Jennings (both hands) and McGraw (portrait); T222 Fatima (1 card): McInnis (Pr); T212 Obak (5 cards): Bues (1911, Vg), Lerchen (1911, Vg), Lindsay (1910, Gd-Vg), Moskiman (1911, Fr), and Williams (1910, Pr); C46 Imperial (4 cards): #22 Rudolph (Pr), 26 Ganzel (SGC VG 40), 36 Phelps (Pr), and 50 Doescher (Pr). Tobacco cards in low grade represent perhaps the best value among all vintage baseball cards. They don't cost a fortune but capture the spirit of the history of the game and collecting as well (some would argue better!) than more expensive higher-grade examples. This is a very interesting and unusual mixed-grade collection of tobacco cards with many highlights from the era's most popular and classic sets. Total 114 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $4,113
