1951 Parkhurst Hockey Box Pack

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $2,644

Extraordinary complete five-cent box pack of 1951 Parkhurst Hockey, one of hockey collecting's most highly prized card sets. In all our years this is only the second example that we have ever offered. (The only other example we have ever offered was way back in June 1997). In the world of unopened packs, this 1951 Parkhurst Hockey pack certainly must qualify as one of the "Holy Grails." This is a miracle pack! The nature of the Parkhurst small box packaging does not involve sealing, like a wax pack, so it is easy to view the contents. The box has a separation at the back and side panels, but when closed it displays completely intact and still houses the five cards and gum originally packaged inside. The five cards inside are as follows: #18 Lowe (Nr/Mt+), 21 Kyle (gum stain on back, otherwise Nr/Mt-Mt), 26 Quackenbush (Nr/Mt-Mt), 29 Schmidt (Nr/Mt-Mt), and 103 Sinclair (Nr/Mt-Mt). This is the first example of a 1951 Parkhurst Hockey pack that we have ever seen or offered at REA during the past forty years. We've never even seen an empty box, which of course is the equivalent of a wrapper for this issue. This is an incredibly rare, substantial, and historically significant pack appearing exactly as it did when originally issued. Dimensions: 2.78 x 2 x .25 inches. Also included is an additional single pack from a 1951 Parkhurst nonsport issue: The outside wrapper reads Bubble Dandy "Parkies." The pack is easily opened (it is not heat sealed) so with no effort we were able to open the pack to view the contents without disturbing the integrity of the pack. The card inside is identified along the bottom as "#31 Hans and Fritz -The Captain and the Kids, copyright 1951 United Feature Syndicate Inc." The wrapper displays only a little dust from storage and is otherwise in exactly the same state as when originally issued. Total 2 packs. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,644
