1948-1952 W468 Exhibits Football Complete Set (59)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,880

Offered is an extraordinarily high grade complete 59-card set of 1948-1952 W468 Exhibits Football cards, one of the most substantial yet perhaps most overlooked vintage football sets from the postwar era. Includes ten SGC-graded cards (ranging from NM+ 86 to NM/MT+ 92) and all of the many highlights from the set, among them key card Herman Wedermeyer (Ex-Mt) and numerous Hall of Famers. The classic Bowman sets from the era have naturally always been on all football-card collectors' radar, but there is little else in the way of major football sets from these key years (1948-1952). The Exhibit card series is a rare exception. Issued over three years (1948-1951) by the Exhibit Supply Co. of Chicago, this black-and-white football-card set features many of the greatest legends of the day. The cards produced in 1951 were also issued in sepia-tone in 1952. (The cards in this set are all black-and-white, and include the short-prints unique to 1948-1951.) Fifty of the cards in this set are virtually flawless, ranging from strong EX-MT to NR/MT-MT condition, crisp and clean, and with sharp corners. The remaining nine cards are very respectable but in slightly lesser condition (five Ex, one Vg-Ex, one Vg, two Gd). The ten cards that have been graded and encapsulated by SGC are Bednarik (NM/MT 88), Connor (NM/MT 88), Davis (NM+ 86), Hoerner (NM/MT+ 92), Justice (NM/MT 88), Luckman (NM/MT 88), Perry (NM/MT+ 92), Tittle (NM/MT 88), Trippi (NM/MT 88), and Tunnell (NM+ 86). This is a crisp, fresh, and ultra high-grade complete set of one of the most overlooked of all football issues. Total 59 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,880
