1994-1995 Derek Jeter Signed Rookie-Era Pro-Model Bat

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,875

This Derek Jeter block-letter (full name) "P72" model bat dates from either the 1994 or 1995 season and almost certainly predates his Major League debut with the Yankees on May 29, 1995, due to the fact that the Yankees team name is absent from the barrel. The black bat displays heavy use along its entire length including ball marks (with blue-ink transfers), deeply embedded stitch marks, pine tar, and a crack in the handle (of indeterminate length) that has been professionally repaired. Jeter has signed the bat in silver paint pen (grading "10") on the sweet spot of the barrel. Factory records indicate that the first shipment of black "P72" model bats (matching this bat's specifications) to Jeter occurred on 5/20/94. Jeter was named the Minor League Player of the Year by Baseball America in 1994. After spending a limited amount of time on the Yankees 1995 roster, Jeter became the club's regular shortstop in 1996. Considered the greatest shortstop in Yankees history, Jeter led the Yankees to four World Championships in his first five years and was named Yankees Captain in 2003. Length: 33.25 inches. Weight: 29.8 ounces. Graded A8 by MEARS (5 point base grade plus 3 points for use). While this is one of twenty-three Derek Jeter bats listed in the MEARS census, it is by far the earliest example bearing his name stamped on the barrel ever evaluated by the company. This is an extraordinary and extremely historically significant Derek Jeter pro-model bat dating from the earliest days of his Hall of Fame career. LOAs from Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $3,000+.
