1984 Jim Rice Pro-Model Bat
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $353
This Jim Rice Louisville Slugger signature-model "C243" bat dates to the 1983-1985 manufacturing period; however, it can be precisely pinpointed to the 1984 season based upon H&B shipping records. According to those records, Rice placed just two orders for model "C243" bats (matching the specifications of the offered bat) during that three-year period. The first order shipped on January 11, 1984, while the second one was sent on February 13, 1984. The bat displays excellent use, including slight grain checking on the back of the barrel (caused by repeated ball contact), ball and stitch marks, and a light coat of pine tar on the handle. Rice's uniform ("14") is written on the knob in black marker. Rice enjoyed another productive season with the Red Sox in 1984; finishing the year with 28 home runs, 122 RBI, and a .280 average. One of the most feared sluggers of his era, Rice retired in 1989 with 382 home runs, 1,451 RBI, and a .298 lifetime average. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009. Length: 34 inches. Weight: 31.5 ounces. LOA from John Taube and Vince Malta of PSA/DNA. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400.
