1974-1975 Frank Robinson Signed Pro-Model Bat
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,175
Frank Robinson H&B signature-model "R161" bat dating from the 1974-1975 manufacturing period. Graded GU8.5 by PSA/DNA. Robinson's uniform number ("20") is written in black marker on both the knob and top of the barrel. The bat displays moderate use, including ball and stitch marks on all sides of the barrel, blue and red rack marks, a light coat of pine tar, and an approximate six-inch crack in the handle that has been professionally repaired. Robinson has signed the bat in black Sharpie (grading "8/9") on the "sweet spot" of the barrel. This bat, while dating from the twilight of Robinson's playing career, is also significant as its manufacturing period includes the 1975 season. It was in that year that Frank Robinson broke another of baseball's long-standing color barriers by becoming the first African-American manager in baseball history when he accepted the position with the Cleveland Indians. One of the game's greatest sluggers, Robinson is still the only player in history to win the MVP Award in each league and his lifetime total of 586 home runs ranks seventh on the all-time list. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1982. Length: 35 inches. Weight: 35 ounces. LOAs from John Taube and Vince Malta of PSA/DNA and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500.
