1932-1956 New York Yankees World Series Press Pin Collection (9)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,406
These nine New York Yankees World Series press pins, spanning the years 1932 through 1956, have a unique provenance: all once belonged to legendary Yankees scout Paul Krichell, the man who signed Lou Gehrig. In addition to signing Gehrig, he also signed Phil Rizzuto, Charlie Keller, Vic Raschi, and Whitey Ford. At the time of his death, in 1957, Krichell was the longest-tenured employee of the entire Yankees organization. Six different years are included here, with duplicates for three different pins. Unless otherwise noted, each of the pins is in Near Mint condition and is complete with its original threaded-post fastener on reverse as issued. The years represented here are 1932 (Ex), 1949 (two examples, one Ex-Mt), 1950 (two examples), 1951 (two examples, one Ex), 1953, and 1956. Ideally, four pins remain mounted on their original Dieges & Clust cards as issued. (Collectors don't make a big deal about these little cards, but this is how many early press pins were originally distributed, and they are rarely seen with the cards intact.) Total: 9 pins. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $4,406
