Circa 1910 Baseball Book Collection (3)
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $940
Collection of three classic hardbound baseball books, each authored by a Hall of Fame Player. 1) Rare 1910 first edition of The Bride and the Pennant by Frank Chance (Laird & Lee, Chicago). There are a few very small, light stains on the front cover illustration, as well as general wear to the boards and the spine. A second-hand price, written in pencil, appears on the front flyleaf. A few of the pages display light blemishes. Vg-Ex. Despite the minor imperfections, this is an outstanding example of this extremely scarce volume, which with its beautiful full-color cover, is ideal for display. 2) 1910 first edition of Won in the Ninth by Christy Mathewson (R. J. Bodmer Company, New York). The striking cover of this volume, featuring Mathewson in action, makes this book ideal for display. Moderate wear to the boards and spine. A vintage inscription, dated December 25, 1914, is written in black fountain pen on the front flyleaf. Vg. 3) 1912 first edition of Pitching in a Pinch by Christy Mathewson (G. P. Putnam's Sons, New York). Moderate wear to the boards and spine. A few tears to some of the pages and one of the interior photos (repaired). Vg. Total: 3 books. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400.
