1904 Sporting Life American and National League W601-Illustrated Schedule Booklet

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,763

This rare and highly unusual double-sided booklet, published by the Sporting Life, features the complete 1904 schedules for every team in both the American and National Leagues. But what makes the forty-page booklet extraordinary is the fact that it features composite photos of each Major League team on the page opposite its respective home and away schedule. Collectors will immediately recognize these team composite images as being the very same as the W601 Sporting Life premiums that were available from the company by mail; and, in fact, an advertisement for the W601 team composites with instructions on how to order them appears below each team composite image. In essence, this booklet provides a "mini-W601" complete set within its pages, advertising for the 1904 W601 set, and features photographs of every member of every team in both the National and American Leagues. And includes schedules for each team for the entire season. This is an extremely substantial rarity! In addition, it's design is unique. It is essentially two booklets in one. Each of the individually bound American and National League schedule booklets share a common back cover, thereby making it a double-sided booklet, in essence two booklets attached, with two front covers (one for each league). This is an extremely interesting and very substantial item. Sporting Life issued similar illustrated schedule booklets in other years (all are rare), but this is the most substantial and earliest of the editions we have seen. This is an item that has been totally overlooked by most collectors (primarily because they have never seen one) and would be a very worthy addition to even the most advanced collection. The booklet (4 x 5 inches) displays only light handling wear and is in Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,763
