Ty Cobb Black-and-White Hall of Fame Postcard

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,998

Black-and-white (Artvue) Hall of Fame postcard of Ty Cobb, signed in black ink (grading “9”) in the lower margin. This is not only one of the most desirable signed black-and-white postcards in the set, but one of the most desirable of all Ty Cobb signed items. As most advanced collectors already know, and new collectors are quick to learn, Cobb, along with Ruth, Alexander, and Eddie Collins, is one of the “keys” to any complete set of autographed black-and-white Hall of Fame postcards. This signed Cobb postcard originates from the extraordinary advanced collection of a dedicated old-time hobbyist and is just one of the many highlights found among his thousands of autographs (the balance of his collection, represented by over thirty lots, is also featured in this auction). The postcard displays a tiny tack hole at the top and a very small amount of surface paper loss along the top border of the reverse (extremely minor) resulting from its removal from an album. While technically in Very Good condition, the tack hole is very unobtrusive and the card displays an overall strong Excellent appearance. This is a magnificent example of this highly prized Hall of Fame signed postcard rarity. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,998
