Circa 1936 New York Yankees Autograph Sheet with Lou Gehrig
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,644
This yellow autograph-album page, which dates from the mid 1930s, features the signatures of five New York Yankees players: Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazerri, Lefty Gomez, Frank Crosetti, and Don Heffner. All of the signatures have been boldly scripted in black fountain pen and grade "10" with the exception of Lazzeri ("9," very slight skip in the ink on the "T" in "Tony"). Each of the five players featured on this sheet played together with the Yankees between the years 1934 and 1937, and one can only assume that the signatures were obtained at the same time, most likely at the ballpark. Although the Gehrig and Lazzeri signatures are extremely close together (not overlapping), the Gehrig signature could conceivably be removed from the sheet and submitted for individual encapsulation and grading (as could the others) if so desired. The sheet (4.5 x 5 inches) displays three notebook holes along the top border (as made), as well as a moderate horizontal crease above Crosetti's signature (not affecting any of the signatures). Vg-Ex. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,644
