1960s and 1970s Topps Test and Unusual Issues Collection (177)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $1,998

Collection of 177 cards and items from the 1960s and early 1970s, including Hall of Famers and stars, representing ten different unusual Topps issues, highlighted by several significant groups of rare Topps Test issues (including nineteen 1969 Topps Test Team posters and sixty 1974 Topps Deckle Edge test cards). This unusual group was assembled by an old-time collector over a period of many years. 1) 1963 Topps Peel-Offs (1): Mantle (miscut on the right edge, otherwise Vg-Ex). 2) 1964 Topps Giants (65 cards): #11 Clemente (20), 25 Mantle (20), and 49 Aaron (25). 80% range from Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt (includes a few Nr/Mt-Mt), 20% slightly lesser grades. 3) 1964 Topps Bazooka Stamps (10 sheets, 7 different of the 10 sheets in the set, 10 stamps per sheet): Produced by Topps for distribution only in boxes of Bazooka Bubble Gum: two sheet #1 (Vg and the other is separated into two sheets; panel of 6 and 4), two #2 includes Robinson/Mays (both Ex-Mt), 3 Robinson/Banks/Clemente (Ex), 5 Cepeda/Cash (Ex-Mt), 6 Mantle/Spahn/Torre (Ex-Mt), 7 Colavito/Boyer (Vg-Ex), and two 9 Aaron (Ex-Mt and Ex). 4) 1966 Topps Rub-Offs (1): Mantle (Ex). 5) 1969 Topps Super (5 cards): #1 McNally (Pr), 20 Oliva (autographed, otherwise Ex), 34 Aaron (square proof with blank back, Vg-Ex), and two 59 Flood (Nr/Mt-Mt and the other autographed, otherwise Ex-Mt). 6) 1969 Topps Team Posters (19 posters, 17 diff. of the 24 in the set): The 1969 Topps Team Posters (20 x 12 inches) are by far the rarest and most unusual of the Topps poster sets. The twenty-four posters in the set, one for each team in both leagues, feature headshots of eleven or so of the team’s best players. This set saw only very limited, if any, distribution to the public, which explains its significant rarity. This group of nineteen (17 different) represents a great start towards completing this rare issue: #1 Tigers (Gd), 2 Braves (ink on back, otherwise Ex), 3 Red Sox (Gd), 4 Cubs (tape in the corners, otherwise Vg-Ex), 5 Orioles (Ex), 6 Houston (ink on back, otherwise Vg-Ex), 9 Pilots (Vg-Ex/Ex), 10 Expos (Vg), 11 White Sox (ink on back, otherwise Vg/Vg-Ex), 14 Giants (ink on back, otherwise Vg/Vg-Ex), 15 Twins (Ex), 16 Pirates (ink on back, otherwise Vg/Vg-Ex), 18 Cardinals (Vg-Ex), two 20 Reds (Vg-Ex and Vg), 22 Dodgers (Gd-Vg), 23 Senators (Gd), and two 24 Mets (Vg-Ex and Vg). 7) 1970 Topps Super Proof (1 card): #38 Powell SP (square proof with blank back, Ex). 8) 1971 Topps Greatest Moments (15 cards): ten #19 Kaline (six Ex and four Vg-Ex), 21 Northrup (Ex), 22 Freehan (Ex-Mt), 24 Gibson (Ex-Mt), and two 51 Aparicio (Ex-Mt and Ex). 9) 1973 Topps Pin-Ups (1): Killebrew (glue and paper residue on the back, otherwise Ex). 10) 1974 Topps Deckle Edge (60 cards including 43 straight-edged sheet-cut proofs): Gray backs (8): #3 Gibson (Vg), 24 (Ex), 27 (Vg), 42 (Vg), 46 (Ex), 49 (Vg), 50 (Ex-Mt), and 62 Oliva (Vg-Ex/Ex). White backs (9): #4 (Vg), 6 Hunter (Gd-Vg), 12 Sutton (Nr/Mt), 18 (Ex), 22 (Ex), 27 (Vg), 46 (Ex-Mt), 58 (Ex), and 65 (Vg). Sheet-Cut Proofs (42 of 72 in the set): #1, 2, 5 Carlton (Ex), 6 Hunter (Vg), 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, 19, 22, 24, 26, 27, 30, 33, 34, 35, 39 Allen (Nr/Mt), 40, 44, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 55, 56, 58, 59 Jenkins (Ex), 60, 62 Oliva (Vg-Ex/Ex), 64 Fisk (Vg), 65, 67, 68, and 72. This is a very interesting assortment, with substantial representation from several key Topps Test issues. Total 177 items. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,998
