1968 Topps 3-D PSA-Graded Collection Including Clemente (14)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $19,975
Collection of fourteen cards (ten different of the twelve in the set plus four duplicates) from the 1968 Topps 3-D set, the most popular and rare Topps test issue of the 1960s. The collection is highlighted by an exceptional example of key card Bob Clemente. We have submitted thirteen of the fourteen cards to be graded by PSA. The collection consists of the following: Clemente (VG-EX 4, downgraded from Nr/Mt due to a very light surface wrinkle visible on the reverse), two Davis (NM 7 and EX 5), Fairly (NM-MT 8), Flood (EX-MT 6), Lonborg (VG-EX 4), two Maloney (NM-MT+ 8.5 and a second example that was sent back by PSA with a "No Holder" label, apparently because it has an elaborate and rarely seen "experimental Xograph" ink stamp with eight lines of text covering the entire back; this is a very rare and desirable quality for a 1968 Topps 3-D card; it has a couple small vertical streaks of missing surface plastic at the bottom of the front of the card and is otherwise in Nr/Mt condition), Powell (we did not send this card in for grading due to condition: it has a tack hole at the top border, but is otherwise Vg), two Robinson (NM 7 and EX-MT 6, both qualified [ST]), Stottlemyre (EX-MT 6), and two Swoboda (NM-MT+ 8.5 and EX 5). This is impressive group would supply a very substantial foundation for the assembly of a beautiful complete mid- to high-grade set of the most desirable of all 1960s Topps test issues. From the Charlie Conlon Collection. Total 14 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $19,975
