1889 M-UNC Police Gazette Cabinet Jerry Denny
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,525
Stunning cabinet card featuring Jerry Denny of the Indianapolis Hoosiers from one of the most elusive nineteenth-century card issues ever produced: the Police Gazette cabinet card series. This cabinet is particularly impressive-looking with an unusual elaborate ornate design on the mount (which is not seen on all Police Gazette cabinets) and an "S. F. Hess style" arc design at the top of the photograph. The photo is virtually flawless except for a tiny spot above his right shoulder, which appears to have been colored in with pencil (possibly the reason for SGC not assigning a numerical grade). The mount has light wear on the corners (more so on the upper left) and a couple minor surface creases in the upper left corner. The reverse of the card has a strip of surface paper loss along the top and possibly some color touchups. Aside from the minor faults, this card displays an overall strong Vg-Ex to Ex appearance. This is a beautiful card and an outstanding example of one of card collecting's rarest and most highly prized nineteenth-century cabinet-card issues. Encapsulated as Authentic by SGC. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,525
