1959 and 1960 Topps "Shoebox" Untouched Original-Owner Boyhood Collection Including Stars (1,379)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $11,750

Addendum: There is a typo in the catalog description: The close of the description in the printed catalog refers to seven PSA-graded cards with an SMR value of $3,165. The detailed description of what is included in the lot is accurate: there are only six psa-graded cards with an SMR value of $640.

This original boyhood shoebox collection of 1,047 assorted Topps baseball cards, dating from 1959 and 1960, is highlighted by numerous stars and key cards, including 1959 Topps #10 Mickey Mantle, 1959 Topps #514 Bob Gibson rookie card, and 1960 Topps #350 Mickey Mantle. In addition to the 1,047 Topps cards from 1959 and 1960, also included is a partial set of 1959 Fleer Ted Williams (82 cards, 57 different of the 80 cards in the set), a complete set of 1958 Topps T.V. Westerns (complete 71-card set plus 115 duplicates), and a near set of 1960 Leaf Foney Ads (64 cards, 63 different of the 72 cards in the set) for a total of 1,379 cards. This is a very clean, crisp collection, in overall far superior condition than normally seen for a shoebox collection. This is an untouched boyhood collection that has been in a closet for the past forty-nine years. These cards were saved by our consignor in the year of issue and have not seen the light of day since 1960! This set was Leaf Gum's first attempt at humorous trading cards. Each card spoofs a major consumer product of the period. This is a very substantial and unusually high grade original "shoebox" collection of Topps (and Fleer) bubble-gum cards, which has literally been stored away in a shoebox for decades, completely unpicked, highlighted by many key cards and Hall of Famers. The SMR value for just the six PSA-graded cards (not including the 1,372 raw cards) is $640. Total 1,379 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $3,000+. SOLD FOR $11,750
