1954 Red Heart Mickey Mantle - GAI Gem Mint 9.5
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $1,763
Graded Gem Mint 9.5 by GAI. Stunning ultra high-grade example of Mickey Mantle's 1954 Red Heart card. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle is the key to the 1954 Red Heart set, and one of the most popular of all postwar baseball cards. Red Hearts have always been a favorite with collectors. Many consider Red Hearts to be one of the most attractive sets ever issued. The distinctive artwork and the unusual product with which they were issued both contribute to making Red Hearts one of the 1950s' most noteworthy sets. The card has bold, bright colors, four razor-sharp corners, perfect registration, and a flawless surface, and is centered just a hint to the bottom border (approximately 52/48). This is a card that approaches perfection! Perfectly crisp and clean, both front and back. In the 1960s and early 1970s, Bruce Yeko's Wholesale Cards had a quantity of high-grade Red Hearts in stock, which he somehow had obtained directly from the company. Included were a stack of Mint Mantles that he originally priced at a quarter each and eventually raised the price all the way to a dollar before running out. Virtually all Red Heart Mantles in Gem Mint condition, including this one, originated from Bruce Yeko, one of the hobby's earliest full-time card dealers. This is an incredible high-grade example of one of collecting's most famous cards, and one of the cornerstones to either a high-grade 1950s Mantle card collection or any world-class collection of classic cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $1,763
