1950-1961 Regionals Collection Including Glendales, Stahl-Meyer, Rodeo Meats, Wilson Franks, etc. (111 cards)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,231
Collection of 111 regional cards from the 1950s (includes a few from 1960-61), including many Hall of Famers and stars, from thirteen different sets, including Glendale Meats, Stahl-Meyer Meats, Rodeo Meats, and Wilson Franks, among others. During the 1950s, it seemed like baseball cards were issued with virtually every type of product, from potato chips to hot dogs, even dog food! This collection includes cards from several of the rarest and most popular of all 1950s regional issues. This is not a high-grade group. But it is not a collection comprised of only "fillers" either. While most of the rarer cards technically grade between Pr and Vg, this is a fascinating and very appealing large collection of 1950s regional rarities, with most cards having flaws that are typical for their respective issues. Many of these cards were packaged in direct contact with the products, and as a result cards typically have flaws, including product staining and creases, of varying degrees. 1) 1953 Glendale Meats (19 cards, 12 different): three Bucha (Gd, Fr, Pr), Delsing (trimmed), Friend (trimmed), two Garver (Fr and Pr), Hatfield (Pr), two Herbert (both Pr), Hitchcock (Fr), Hoeft (Pr), three Lund (all Pr), Madison (trimmed), Marlowe (pr), two Mullin (Fr and Pr). 2) 1953 Stahl-Meyer Franks: Rizzuto (Pr). 3) 1954 Stahl-Meyer Franks: McDougald (Pr). 4) 1955 Stahl-Meyer Franks: Mueller (trimmed). 5) 1954 Dan-Dee Potato Chips (25 cards, 18 different): Avila (Vg), Bauer (Fr), Copper (Pr), Friend (Pr), two Gordon (Gd and Fr), Hodges (Pr), two Irvin (both Vg), two LaPalm (both Pr), Lemon (Vg), Lopez (Vg), Mitchell (Fr), two Rizzuto (Vg and Pr), two Roberts (both Pr), Smith (Vg-Ex), Snider (Pr), Surkont (Pr), three Thomas (Vg, Fr, Pr), and Westlake (Pr). 6) 1954 Red Heart Dog Food (15 cards): Ashburn (Gd), Bell (Vg), Cox (Fr), Hegan (Gd), Kiner (trimmed), Kluszewski (Gd), Kuenn (Ex), Lemon (Gd-Vg), Mantle (Gd), McMillan (Vg-Ex), Minoso (Vg), Schoendienst (Vg-Ex), Slaughter (Gd), White (Gd), and Yost (Gd). 7) 1954 Wilson Franks (11 cards, 7 different): Fain (Pr), Feller (Fr), two Hack (Gd and Pr), two McMillan (Gd and Fr), two Pafko (Vg and Pr), two Slaughter (Gd and trimmed), and White (Fr). 8) 1955 Rodeo Meats Athletics (13 cards): Ceccarelli (Fr), Finigan (Pr), Herbert (Fr), Kellner (Fr), Lopez (Gd), Portocarrero (Pr), Renna (Pr), Shantz (Pr), Simpson (Fr), Slaughter (Gd-Vg), Sleater (Gd-Vg), Wilson (Gd), and Zernial (Pr-Fr). 9) 1960 Bell Brand Dodgers (5 cards): #3 (Pr), 5 (Vg-Ex), 13 (Pr), 17 Zimmer (Vg), and 20 Wills (Vg). 10) 1961 Bell Brand Dodgers (5 cards): #9 (Ex), 14 Hodges (Vg-Ex), 22 Podres (Vg-Ex), 34 (Pr), and 40 (Ex-Mt). 11) 1962 Bell Brand Dodgers (9 cards, 8 different): #4 Snider (Gd), 6 (Ex-Mt), 9 (Ex-Mt), 16 (Ex), 20 (Vg), two 24 Alston (both Vg-Ex), 40 (Gd), and 53 Drysdale (Gd-Vg). 12) 1961 Morrell Meats Dodgers: Koufax (Pr-Fr). 13) 1950 V362 Big League Stars (5 cards, 2 different): four #3 Wade (two Nr/Mt, two Ex) and 10 McGlothin (Ex-Mt and Gd).
