1949 Bowman Complete Set (240 plus 11 variations)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,875

1949 Bowman complete set of 240 cards plus eleven variations for a total 251 cards. 5% range from Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 50% range from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt (averaging Ex), and 45% Vg (with a few slightly lesser). This is an extremely attractive medium-grade set, and rarely offered this nice as a complete set. While the condition of cards from this set spans several grades, even the lesser-graded cards are very pleasing and exhibit bright colors and crisp focus. Many rookie cards of Hall of Famers are featured in this classic postwar issue, highlighted by Roy Campanella, Richie Ashburn, Duke Snider, Robin Roberts, Early Wynn, and Bob Lemon. We have selected six cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: #1 Bickford (Ex-Mt), 11 Boudreau (Vg-Ex), 23 Doerr (Gd-Vg), 24 Musial (Pr), 26 Kell (Ex), 27 Feller (Vg), 29 Kiner (Ex), 33 Spahn (Vg), 36 Reese (80/20 L/R, otherwise Vg-Ex), 46 Roberts RC (30/70 T/B, otherwise Ex), 50 Robinson (GOOD 30), 60 Berra (Gd), 65 Slaughter (Vg), 70 Furillo RC (25/75 T/B, otherwise Ex), 84 Campanella RC (NM+ 86), 85a Mize NNOF (Gd-Vg), 85b Mize NOF (Vg-Ex), 98a Rizzuto NNOF (Vg), 98b Rizzuto NOF (Fr), 100 Hodges RC (VG/EX 50), 110 Wynn RC (Ex), 111 Schoendienst (Ex-Mt), 162 Roe RC (Vg), 175 Appling (Vg), 194 Branca RC (Vg), 209 Keller (Ex-Mt), 210 Gordon (Ex), 214 Ashburn RC (VG 40), 224 Paige (GOOD 30), 225 Coleman RC (Vg-Ex), 226 Snider RC (Vg), 229 Lopat RC (Ex-Mt), 233 Doby (EX/NM 80), and 238 Lemon RC (Vg-Ex). Also included with the set are nine additional variations: #4 Priddy NOF (Vg-Ex), 75 Mayo (gray back, 90/10 T/B, otherwise Ex), 76 Nicholson (gray back, Ex), 83 Scheffing NOF (Vg-Ex), 88 Salkeld (gray back, miscut along the right edge, otherwise Vg-Ex), 91 Wakefield (gray back, Ex), 124 Murtaugh (printed name, Vg-Ex), 126 Brazle (printed name, Ex), and 143 Dillinger (printed name, Vg). 1949 Bowman is the most underrated set in terms of rarity among Topps and Bowman sets issued between 1948 and 1955. We rarely see 1949 Bowman sets, let alone in such clean and consistent condition. With some upgrades this is a set that could provide the foundation for a world-class 1949 Bowman set. Total 251 cards (set of 240 plus 11 variations). Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $5,875
