1941 Play Ball #71 Joe DiMaggio Wrong-Back Error Card

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $1,645

Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Extremely rare 1941 Play Ball Joe DiMaggio wrong-back error card. Blank backs and wrong backs have always fascinated card collectors, especially from the most popular and classic sets. Presented is a rare error card from the 1941 Play Ball issue, featuring Hall of Famer #71 Joe DiMaggio on the front and with #50 John Cooney bio on the reverse. The card is bright and crisp, with brilliant colors, perfect registration, four square corners displaying just a slight hint of wear, and centered to the left border (approximately 30/70 L/R). The slightly miscut back relates directly to the creation of the wrong-back error as the "backs" were applied upside down on the sheet of Play Balls on which this card was printed, thus creating wrong back errors. Other wrong-back error cards from this same sheet are also known. All are very rare. The best of the 1941 Play Ball rare wrong-back error cards, of course, is the #71 Joe DiMaggio front/#50 John Cooney back combination. This is a rare and remarkably high grade error card of the “Yankee Clipper” from the classic 1941 Play Ball set. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,645
