1937 Four-On-One Exhibits Complete Set (16)
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $3,231
Complete set of sixteen cards from the unusual 1937 Four-On-One Exhibits series. Seven cards grade Vg (with a couple Vg-Ex), and nine cards are slightly lesser grades, but all with a crisp, clean appearance. In 1929 the Exhibit Supply Co. of Chicago changed the design of its cards and began issuing Four-On-One Exhibits featuring four different players per card, all from the same team. This unique design lasted for nine years, until 1938. The key card from the 1937 Four-On-One set features photos of Yankee Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Tony Lazzeri, and Lefty Gomez (technically Vg; this is great-looking card). This is one of the few Four-On-One Exhibits to feature four Hall of Famers including DiMaggio in only his second year as a Major League ball player. These cards naturally each have tremendous eye appeal; together, they look even more impressive. These Four-On-One Exhibits are far rarer than many other cards from the era and present an extraordinary value for quality cards from the 1930s. Total 16 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600+.
