1933 R309-1 Goudey Premium Collection (3)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $705
Three of the four cards which comprise the complete set of R309-1 Goudey Premiums: Babe Ruth (Good condition, small tear on the left edge, light creases near the upper left, lower left and right corners, two pieces of tape along the left and right edge of the reverse); 1933 American League All Stars with Ruth and Gehrig (Vg-Ex appearance but downgraded to Good due to some light creasing and a couple tiny spots of paper residue on the reverse); 1933 “World Champions” New York Giants with Mel Ott (small tear on the bottom border and some light creasing). This issue was available only by mail in exchange for Goudey Gum wrappers. These very substantial high quality premiums, which are printed on thick cardboard stock, are designed with a foldout cardboard easel attachment on the reverse, which allows each card to stand on its own for display. All three examples have the easel backs intact and complete (except the Giants is missing the small centerpiece). Even though these do not technically grade very high, these cards are bright and clean, and have an overall far superior appearance than suggested by the modest grades. This is a very attractive mid-grade group of three Goudey premiums from 1933 including Babe Ruth, missing only the N. L. All Stars for completion, and representing an outstanding vintage-card collecting value. Total 3 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $300/$500. SOLD FOR $705
