1934-1936 R327 Diamond Stars Near-Complete Set (105 of 108)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $7,050

Extremely attractive near-complete set of R327 Diamond Stars includes 105 different of the 108 cards in the set, missing only the following three cards for completion: #89, 95 Appling, and 105 Lombardi. 45% range from Ex to Nr/Mt (averaging Ex-Mt), 30% range from Vg to Vg-Ex, 25% lesser grades (many of these lesser graded cards actually have an Ex or better appearance, and have been appropriately downgraded due to various serious flaws such as having a very slight trim). This is a very attractive near-complete set of this classic 1930s gum-card issue, which is highlighted by thirty-one Hall of Famers and includes ten of the twelve rare high-number series cards (#97 thru 108), which have always made this issue so difficult to complete. We have selected eighteen cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: #1 Grove (Gd), 2 Simmons (Vg-Ex), 3 Maranville (Ex), 9 Cochrane (80/20 L/R, otherwise Ex), 11 Dickey (EX/NM 80), 14 Terry (FAIR 20), 16 Waner (VG 40), 17 Frisch (NM 84), 18 Hafey (Ex), 27 Traynor (Vg), 28 Lopez (Vg-Ex), 30 Manush (Ex), 31 Cuyler (Gd-Vg), 32 Rice (NM 84), 35 Averill (Vg-Ex), 36 Lombardi (Vg-Ex), 38 (EX/NM 80), 39 Hubbell (EX/NM 80), 43 Lyons (Ex), 44 Hornsby (EX/NM 80), 48 Ferrell (slight trim, otherwise Nr/Mt), 50 Ott (Pr), 54 Greenberg (Pr), 57 (NM 84), 59 Bottomley (Pr), 60 Ruffing (Vg-Ex), 63 Jackson (slight trim, otherwise Nr/Mt), 64 Foxx (Gd-Vg), 65 (EX+ 70), 66 Medwick (90/10 L/R, otherwise Ex), 74 Lazzeri (Gd), 77 Gehringer (Vg-Ex), 82 (FAIR 20), 83 Waner (70/30 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 90 (VG/EX 50), 91 Harris (Ex), 94 (EX 60), 97 Lopez (VG/EX 50), 99 Traynor (Ex), 100 Averill (EX 60), 101 High # (NM/MT 88), 103 Dickey (NM 84), 106 High # (NM 84), and 108 Berger (last card in set, Vg). This is a very sharp-looking, carefully assembled mid- to high-grade near-complete set of one of the 1930s' most popular issues. The equivalent SMR value for just the eighteen graded cards (not including the additional 87 ungraded cards) is $4,562. From the Charlie Conlon Collection. Total 105 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+. SOLD FOR $7,050
