1933 R338 Sport Kings Near-Complete Set (46/48)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,288

Very attractive medium-grade near-complete set of 1933 R338 Sport Kings consisting of 46 of the 48 cards which comprise this classic multisport 1930s prewar gum issue. The set is missing only two cards for completion (#1 Cobb and #19 Shore). We have selected seven cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Condition composite: One card grades Ex-Mt: #20 Kahanamoku (SGC EX/NM 80). Eighteen cards grade Ex: #6 Thorpe (SGC EX+ 70), 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16 Tilden, 21 Weissmuller, 30 Johnson, 25, 31, 33 Burke, 34, 36 Hoppe, 40, 41, 47, and 48 Seppala. Ten cards grade Vg-Ex: #3 Holman, 5 Wachter, 13, 14, 15, 18 Tunney (SGC VG/EX 50), 22 Sarazen, 24 Morenz, 27 Turner, and 42 Hubbell (SGC VG/EX 50). Five cards grade Vg: #17 Tunney (SGC VG 40), 35 Rockne (SGC VG 40), 37, 45 Didrickson, and 46. Nine cards grade Good: #2 Babe Ruth (SGC GOOD 30), 4 Grange, 8 Hagen, 23, 26, 29 Bailey, 39, 43 Carnera, and 44 Baer. Three cards in lesser grades: #28 Doolittle, 32 Lopchick, and 38 Jones. This is a very attractive medium-grade near-complete set, with many condition highlights, and with many of the lesser-graded cards having a far superior eye appeal than their technically accurate assigned grades suggest. The equivalent SMR value just on the seven graded cards is $2,350. Total 46 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $5,288
