1933 R338 Sport Kings Near-Complete Set (43 of 48)
Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $17,625
Sport Kings have always been one of the most popular sets of the 1930s. Presented is a near-set of forty-three of the forty-eight cards which comprise this classic multisport prewar gum issue. Missing just five cards for completion (#1 Cobb, 2 Ruth, 26 Wedell, 44 Baer, and 45 Didrickson). We have selected twenty-two cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC, as follows: One NM/MT+ 92: #8 Hagen. Four NM/MT 88: #11, 12, 13, and 28 Doolittle. One NM+ 86: #18 Tunney. Five NM 84: #9, 23, 29 Bailey, 35 Rockne, and 40. Five EX/NM 80: #5 Wachter, 10, 14, 17 Dempsey, and 33 Burke. Two EX+ 70: #6 Thorpe and 20 Kahanamoku. Two EX 60: #34 Jaffee and 42 Hubbell. Two VG/EX 50: #19 Shore and 21 Weissmuller. Condition composite of the balance (21 cards): Six cards grade Ex-Mt: #15, 25, 27 Turner, 32 Lopchick, 47, and 48 Seppala (last card in set). Five cards grade Ex: #7, 16 Tilden, 39, 43 Carnera, and 46. Two cards grade Vg-Ex: #4 Grange and 36 Hoppe. One card grades Vg: #37 Madison. One card grades Gd: #38 Jones. Six cards appear to be trimmed or sheet-cut: #3 Holman, 22 Sarazen, 24 Morenz, 30 Johnson, 31, and 41. This is a very attractive mixed but mostly high-grade near-complete set, with many condition highlights, and with even the lesser-graded cards having a far superior eye-appeal than suggested by their technically accurate assigned grades. Tremendous break value! The equivalent SMR value on the thirteen graded cards alone (not including the thirty ungraded cards) is $12,930. From the Charlie Conlon Collection. Total 43 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$10,000+. SOLD FOR $17,625
