1912 T207 Brown Background Rarities Lowdermilk and Miller (2)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,938
Offered are the rare Lowdermilk and Miller (Chicago) cards from the T207 set, both significant rarities from the popular T207 Brown Background series. These are each among the rarest cards in the set. While the Lowdermilk is the more famous of the two, because it was originally listed in the American Card Catalog as the only rare card in the set, many advanced collectors consider Miller, Chicago, even rarer. 1) Louis Lowdermilk (Encapsulated as "Authentic" by SGC). This example of one of the legendary rarities of tobacco cards has not been assigned a numerical grade by SGC due to a slight trim along the right border; the card otherwise has an impressive Vg appearance. Broadleaf Cigarettes advertisement on reverse. 2) Ward Miller/Chicago (SGC VG 40). This example of the Miller, Chicago T207 variation has no creases, corner rounding and wear, and is centered to the top (approximately 25/75). There is no cigarette company advertisement on the reverse. Today these no-ad back cards are often referred to as "Anonymous" brand cards by collectors; in the old days many collectors referred to these as issued by Coupon Tobacco. Today collectors recognize many cards as being of various degrees of rarity in the T207 set, but Lowdermilk and Miller (Chicago) will always be recognized as two of the key rarities from the classic T207 set. This is a very attractive low- to mid-grade pair of these key T207 rarities. Total 2 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,938
