1912 T207 Brown Background Collection (80 cards)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,231

Collection of eighty different (out of 200 in the set) T207 Brown Background cards, all with Recruit backs (except two with Broad Leaf backs and one Anonymous), highlighted by Hall of Famer Walter Johnson. This is an overall fairly clean collection with 30% grading from Vg-Ex to Ex, 70% grading Vg and slightly lesser (including a few slightly trimmed). We have selected four cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. The collection is highlighted by seven Hall of Famers and five rarities: Bender (HOF, Gd), Bresnahan (HOF, possible slight trim), Carey (HOF, slight trim), Downey (Anonymous back, Fr), Graham (SGC VG 40), Walter Johnson (HOF, SGC FAIR 20, great-looking card downgraded for being off-center 90/10 L/R and 99/1 T/B and an ink stamp on the reverse), Livingston/small "C" (SGC EX 60), Marquard (HOF, SGC EX 60), McGraw (HOF, Gd), Moriarty (Broad Leaf back, miscut on top, o/w Fr), Nelson (Broad Leaf back, Gd), and Wheat (HOF, Fr-Gd). Most cards have a stronger appearance than the technically accurate assigned grades (which is usually the case with T207s). This is a substantial T207 collection representing 40% of the set, including some very noteworthy highlights, and providing a strong foundation for collecting this classic tobacco-card issue. Total 80 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,231
