1911 M110 Sporting Life Cabinet Christy Mathewson
Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $9,988
Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Presented is Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson, one of the key cards from the extremely rare M110 Sporting Life cabinet set issued in 1911. This auction includes the complete M110 set, assembled and presented by the same consignor, with each card offered individually. Each card in the set features beautiful full-color pastel artwork on the front and advertising for Sporting Life on the reverse. M110s are similar in design to, but far rarer than, the contemporary T3 Turkey Red cabinets. This one of the rarest and most beautiful of all Christy Mathewson cards. Bright and clean, both front and back, with a light diagonal crease near the lower left corner, and a tiny tear on the bottom edge below the “Y” in Christy (very difficult to see, and though this is so minor, it has kept this gem from grading much higher). The back is perfectly clean with light shading along the top edge. This is an outstanding example of one of the most striking and rarest of all Christy Mathewson cards, with an appearance far superior to its technically accurate SGC-assigned grade. Dimensions: 5-5/8 x 7-1/2 inches. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $9,988
