1911 T212 Obak Buck Weaver
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,525
Graded VG 40 by SGC. The SGC grade alone does not do this card justice. Aside from a minor ink stamp on the reverse, this is a stunning card in Excellent condition. Buck Weaver, a member of the infamous 1919 Black Sox, has reached cult status in the collecting world. His cards routinely sell for more than Hall of Famers from the same sets in which he appears. Unfortunately for collectors, Weaver appears in very few sets. This is an outstanding example of what is perhaps Buck Weaver's most majestic card: his 1911 T212 Obak Cigarettes card, which pictures him with San Francisco of the Pacific Coast League, before his Major League playing days with the Chicago White Sox. This is an extremely attractive card of Weaver in full uniform posing with his bat on his shoulder. This card is usually found in far lower grade. The card is well centered; clean front and back, with only the lightest, even wear to the four strong square corners, perfect centering, and flawless colors. This is a very interesting card in terms of condition as it has an Excellent appearance, and has been harshly downgraded to VG only due to a remnant of a small purple ink stamp on the reverse. Ink stamps of this type are fairly common with tobacco cards. This is a very strong and extremely attractive example of this early and important Buck Weaver tobacco card. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $3,525
