1911 E100 Bishop & Co. PCL Type II Buck Weaver BVG VG-EX 4

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $9,400

Graded VG-EX 4 by BVG. This extremely rare E100 Bishop & Co. Type II card features infamous “Black Sox” member Buck Weaver, the key card from this highly elusive issue. Weaver was an accomplished player, and might have even wound up in the Hall of Fame had he not been banned from baseball for his role in throwing the 1919 World Series. This is an E100 Type II card. Type II cards, which are considerably rarer than Type I cards, are printed with only orange and green backgrounds, with blank backs, often have larger cropped images (as is the case with this example) than Type I cards, and have caption differences. This is a very strong card, perfectly clean front and back, with four square corners, and a brilliant image set against a bold green background. The square corners display light wear, while the flawless image is centered very slightly towards the bottom left. A very light crease is faintly visible near the bottom left corner. If not for the light crease, this card most likely would have received a higher grade. Tremendous eye-appeal! This card is the highlight of a small but very exciting group of newly discovered E100 Bishop & Co. cards that recently surfaced. This is an extremely desirable and rarely offered card of this future Black Sox member from the 1911 E100 Bishop Type II series, which displays far stronger than its technically accurate grade. Reserve $2,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $9,400
