1911 T205 Gold Border Collection Including Ty Cobb (82)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,350
Collection of seventy-one different (plus eleven duplicates) 1911 T205 Gold Borders including nine Hall of Famers, highlighted by Ty Cobb. Condition: Six cards are Vg-Ex, thirty-four grade Vg, and the balance of forty-two cards are lower grade, ranging from Poor to Good. We have selected four cards to be graded by SGC. Highlights: Bender (Gd), Chance (SGC VG 40), Cobb (SGC FAIR 20, Vg appearance from the front downgraded due to light back damage), Evers (Pr), two Wallace/cap (Vg and Pr), Wallace/no cap, two 1910 stats (trimmed, otherwise Vg), Walsh (SGC Auth, slight trim), and Wheat (SGC VG 40). Also included are two minor leaguers: Batch (Pr) and McAllister (Vg). These cards have been consigned by the family of an old-time collector who assembled them back in the days when condition just didn't matter much. Today these collections of lower grade classic cards, especially when offered with key stars such as Ty Cobb as is the case here, represent some of the best values in all of card collecting. This collection of T205 Gold Borders, with seventy-one different cards representing 34% of a complete set, could easily serve as a solid foundation for the building of a mid- to low-grade set. Total 82 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $2,350
