1911 T205 Gold Border Eddie Cicotte - SGC NM 84
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $4,700
Graded NM 84 by SGC. Absolutely stunning, unbelievably high-grade example of “Black Sox” member Eddie Cicotte from the T205 Gold Borders, a classic from one of the most popular of all 1910-era tobacco issues. This is simply an incredible example for any T205 Gold Border tobacco card. This example is without question the finest T205 Cicotte that REA has ever offered. The SGC grade doesn't tell the whole story here. It is impossible to look at this gem without saying "Wow.” The card has only the slightest hint of white at the extreme tips of only two corners, visible only under the closest inspection, and the most minute hint of chipping (even harder to see) to the gold near the center of the extreme edge of the left border; otherwise the easily chipped gold borders are without any white showing whatsoever. Centered 45/55 left to right and 60/40 top to bottom, this striking gem has flawless colors and perfect registration. The reverse of the card is also exceptionally bright and perfectly clean. Advertising for Sweet Caporal on reverse. This is a world-class ultra high-grade T205 example of Edward Cicotte, one of the infamous “Black Sox” members, from one of collecting's most classic and condition-sensitive sets. The equivalent SMR value is $1,100. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $4,700
