1910 E104-1 Nadja Caramels and D359 Williams Baking Philadelphia Athletics Collection (2)
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,058
Extremely scarce pair of 1910-era card samples from two different highly regarded related issues: Williams Baking and Nadja Caramels, each with the "1910 World's Champions" overprint. 1) D359 Williams Baking Cy Morgan (SGC VG/EX 50). Exceptional sample card from this rare bakery issue with an ideal boldly printed Williams Bread advertising reverse. No creases. Bold colors. This card has a strong Excellent appearance. 2) E104-1 Nadja Caramels Topsy Hartsel (SGC FAIR 20). This card appears to be in Vg-Ex condition and has apparently been downgraded due to the "Swifts" ink stamp on the blank reverse. This E104-1 is identical to the D359 Williams Baking, and other related issues, but with a blank back. This example has a "Swift, 244 W. 23rd St." red ink stamp on back. This is one of a small group of fifteen E104-1 cards that surfaced a couple of years ago, all with this ink stamp. We believe that Swift was a retail establishment that stamped these cards with its name and address for distribution with candy or just as promotional giveaways. Each of these two cards has an appearance stronger than its technically accurate SGC-assigned grade. Two extremely attractive examples of two star players from these rare sets, which featured only Philadelphia Athletic players, issued to commemorate the 1910 Championship season. The very same images of these A's players were used for similar sets issued by Rochester Baking, E104-1 Nadja, and T208 Cullivan's Fireside Tobacco. Total 2 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,058
