1909-1911 T206 White Border "Florida Attic Find" Collection (20)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,233
Collection of twenty different T206 White Border cards from the legendary “Florida T206 Attic Find” of 2002, each graded and encapsulated by the short-lived but highly respected SCD Authentic. In 2002, a European man who recently settled in the United States was remodeling his newly acquired home in Florida, and while rummaging around in the attic found an old trunk filled with nearly 350 virtually pristine T206 White Border cards and a handful of T205 Gold Borders. The man was not a baseball fan and all the names on these cardboard treasures were completely unfamiliar to him. He began researching his find and fortunately found SCD, which was his source for information. At the time, SCD was just starting a grading service, and it was a perfect fit for this noncollector to use their service. All the cards in the collection were graded by SCD and soon after sold by auction, dispersed throughout the collecting community. The unusual circumstances of the discovery of the collection, combined with the outstanding original untouched condition of cards, made "The Florida T206 Attic Find" a very highly respected and celebrated vintage-card find. Cards from this find are rarely seen today. This group of twenty different cards represents 6% of the historic collection. The SCD Authentic grades are as follows: One NM 7: Gibson. Two EX/NM+ 6.5: Hall and Jones (Chi., port.). Three EX/NM 6: Camnitz (arms folded), Cassidy, and O’Brien. Six EX+ 5.5: Arndt, Devlin, Ewing, Leach (port.), Jones (St. Louis), and Schmidt (throwing). Four EX 5: Manning (batting), Marshall, Mitchell (Cin.), and Mullin (throwing). Four VG/EX 4: Ames (hands at chest), Hemphill, Stahl (no glove), and Steinfeldt (port.). T206 White Borders are one of card collecting's most popular and classic sets. This exceptional group could serve as an outstanding foundation for the building of a high-grade T206 set, or make a very significant contribution to the upgrading or building of a set currently in the process of being assembled. The equivalent SMR value is $2,750. Total 20 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,233
