1886 N172 Old Judge Roger Connor
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,113
Graded EX/NM 80 by SGC. Only example graded at this level by SGC, with just one graded higher. Extremely high grade "script series" N172 Old Judge card of Hall of Famer Roger Connor of the New York Giants (batter’s box on floor, name in script). We believe the distinctive "script series" cards were issued in 1886 (although it is possible they date from early 1887). Connor was one of the greatest sluggers of the 19th century. His 138 career home runs stood as the record until Babe Ruth exceeded it. This is a very attractive card with a perfectly clean front, no creases, square corners with just a hint of wear, and a light stain on the reverse. This is an exceptional Hall of Famer example from one of the nineteenth century's most revered sets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $4,113
