1880s-1910 Baseball Cabinet Card and Supplement Collection (20)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $7,050
Collection of twenty different cabinet cards and supplements featuring baseball players dating from the late 1880s to the early 1900s. This is an exciting collection of fascinating rarities, from nine different large-format issues. 1) Circa late 1880s Flodin & Thyberg Studio Cabinet (1 card): Billy Annis, Worcester. Flodin and Thyberg studios of Worcester, Mass. Ex with Player identification and price ("100-") in pencil on reverse. 2) 1895 N566 Newsboy Tobacco Cabinet (1 card): #179 W. B. Fuller (Gd). 3) 1899-1900 M101-1 Sporting News Supplements (4): Martin Bergen (Pr), Mike Donlin (Vg/Vg-Ex), Michael Griffin (Pr-Fr), and O’Connor (Fr-Gd). 4) 1902 W600 Sporting Life Cabinets (8 cards): Bradley (light stain lower right, heavy stain on reverse, otherwise Vg), Daly (Gd), Jones (Pr), Ritchey (Gd-Vg), Schulte (Vg), Stone (Fr-Gd, a little paper loss on reverse, still a nice looking card), Strang (Vg-Ex), and Taylor (G-Vg). 5) Circa 1905 Falk Studio Cabinet (1 card): Hall of Famer Joe "Iron Man" McGinnity dressed in street clothes. Falk Studios of New York, NY. The bottom portion of the cabinet, which originally included the studio name and address, has been trimmed off. We were able to identify this cabinet series by comparing it to a Mathewson example from this same studio, and it was a perfect match. Without reference to being trimmed along the bottom, the cabinet is in Ex condition. 6) 1905-1909 Carl Horner Cabinet (1 card): Nick Altrock (two tiny tack holes on the left border and light pencil notations on the reverse, otherwise Excellent condition). 7) 1907 Newark Evening World Supplements (2): Henry LaBelle (Gd-Vg) and Bayard Sharpe (Vg). 8) 1910 Plow Boy Tobacco (1 card): Jimmy Archer (Gd). 9) Circa 1900 Misc. Cabinet (1): Lou Criger original photo with vintage identification typed on paper slip on mount (4 x 8 inches). This is an outstanding and unusually high quality collection of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century baseball cabinet cards and supplements, including many rarities and highlights. Total 20 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $7,050
