1910 E93 Standard Caramel Honus Wagner - Throwing
Starting Bid - $800, Sold For - $2,938
Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Presented is an extremely striking example of Hall of Famer Honus Wagner in a throwing pose from the very popular E93 Standard Caramel series. This 30-card set was issued in 1910 by the Standard Caramel Co. of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This set is closely related to several other candy sets from the era which share the same format and, in many cases, the same player image. Bright and clean, both front and back, with a bold red background, even wear to the corners, no creases, and flawless registration. The card has been downgraded from Excellent by SGC due to a slight "diamond" cut and the most minute surface chip along the edge of the bottom border (under the "Wa" in "Wagner"; extremely minor and very difficult to see even knowing where it is and looking for it). This card is in extraordinary condition, especially for a caramel card, which because they were issued with candy, one card per package, tend to survive in lesser condition than their more common tobacco-card counterparts. This is a very attractive example of the legendary Honus Wagner from one of the most popular and colorful of all “E” card issues. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $2,938
