Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Highest-graded example of 1938 "Horrors of War" bubble-gum card #270, entitled “Jap Machine-Gunners Pursue Swimming Airman," issued by Gum, Inc. The card features a fighter pilot swimming for his life as an enemy plane fires its machine gun. The back of the card explains that "After the China National Aviation Corp. plane had been downed by Jap flyers it was followed by pursuit planes which continued to machine-gun it until it was sunk, and when Pilot Woods started swimming across the river they began to machine-gun him." Rare high-number series card (#241-288). Perfectly centered with four razor-sharp corners. Sharp high-grade 1938 "Horrors of War" card, the highest-graded example. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
