1939 Gum, Inc R173 "The World In Arms" and R165 "War News Pictures" Original Artwork

In 1939, Gum, Inc., issued the classic “War News Pictures” and “The World In Arms” sets, each featuring some of the finest artworks of any Gum, Inc., production. To cut costs, Gum, Inc., used the very same artwork to produce twenty-four cards of both series. This is one of the twenty-four artworks used in both sets. This gorgeous original artwork (6-1/8 x 4-7/8 inches) was used to make card #72 from the “War News Pictures” set and card #8 Miscellaneous from the “The World In Arms” set. The image is called "Martin-Barlow Aerial Bomb" and pictures the devastation caused to a city when this bomb is dropped from 25,000 feet above. Beautifully executed with extraordinary detail, the artwork is on a thick cardboard stock and includes additional image area, which was cropped out by Gum, Inc., on the issued card. All original Gum, Inc., artwork is extremely rare, and this is an exceptional example. The artwork is in Near Mint condition, and is accompanied by an example of both issued cards. Reserve $200.
