1910 E93 Standard Caramel Hall of Fame PSA-Graded Collection (6)
Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $26,438
Collection of five extremely high-grade Hall of Famers and one common player (for a total of six cards) from the 1910 E93 Standard Caramel set. When these six cards were found by us in an old-time collection, they were not yet graded, but were clearly one of the all-time great small high-grade groups of caramel cards we we had ever encountered. We submitted all six cards to PSA for grading and the exceptionally high grades speak for themselves: 1) Eddie Plank (NM+ 7.5). Only example graded at this level by PSA, with just two cards graded higher. Stunning card with bright, crisp colors, clean front and back, and four sharp corners. Centered 65/35 L/R and 40/60 T/B. The reverse has a boldly printed checklist. 2) Johnny Evers (EX-MT+ 6.5). Only example graded at this level, with just one card graded higher. Crisp and clean, with light wear on the square corners, and perfectly centered. The checklist reverse is boldly printed. 3) Addie Joss (NM 7). One of just two examples graded at this level by PSA, with only two graded higher. Bright and clean, both front and back, with an extremely bold red background, and just the slightest hint of wear to the corners. Centered to the left with a very slight tilt to the image. 4) Nap Lajoie (NM+ 7.5). Only example graded at this level, with just three cards graded higher. Perfectly clean, front and back, with sharp corners, with a little wear in the lower left, a stunning deep red background, and centered slightly to the right border (approximately 55/45). This is a very sharp looking card. 5) John McGraw (EX-MT 6). Centered to the right, with just a hint of light even wear to the square corners. 6) Harry Coveleski (EX-MT 6). One of just five examples graded at this level by PSA, with only one graded higher. Centered to the right, with light, even wear to the square corners, and virtually flawless registration. The back has a few light hints of caramel stains. This 30-card set was issued in 1910 by the Standard Caramel Co. of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This set is closely related to several other candy sets from the era, which share the same format, and, in many cases, the same player image. This is an extremely attractive, extraordinarily high grade collection of six E93 Standard Caramel cards including five Hall of Famers. Total 6 cards. Reserve $5,000. Estimate (open).
