1954-1955 Topps Hockey Complete Set (60)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,115
Complete set of the landmark 1954-1955 Topps Hockey series, the first hockey set issued by Topps. This important set includes only 60 cards, and features players from the four American teams: Detroit, New York, Chicago, and Boston. This is an extremely high quality complete set of 1954-1955 Topps, one of the most popular and classic of all hockey-card sets. We have selected three cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: #1 Gamble (Ex), 3 Howell (Ex+), 5 Kelly (Ex-Mt), 8 Howe (SGC EX+ 70), 10 Worsley (SGC EX/NM 80), 11 Bathgate (Ex), 18 Mohns RC (Ex), 20 Gadsby (Ex-Mt), 39 Delvecchio (Ex), 41 Stanley (Ex), 49 Quackenbush (Ex), 51 Lindsay (slight diamond cut, otherwise Ex-Mt), 58 Sawchuk (SGC EX 60), and 60 Schmidt (last card in set, Vg-Ex/Ex). The balance of the cards grade as follows: 98% range from Ex to Ex-Mt (with a few slightly better), 2% slightly lesser. The flush-to-the-bottom-border design of the 1954-1955 Topps Hockey set makes this issue particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear, and makes the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. This is an exceptionally attractive mid- to high-grade set, far above average for this issue, with tremendous eye appeal across the board. A high quality and very carefully assembled complete set of one of card collecting's most popular hockey issues. From the Charlie Conlon Collection. Total 60 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,115
