Pair of Chicago Bulls Shooting Shirts Attributed to Michael Jordan
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $705
Each of these two authentic Chicago Bulls shooting shirts has been attributed to Michael Jordan solely on the basis of his uniform number ("23") having been written in vintage black marker on each of the respective manufacturer's tags. No other documentation or team/player provenance accompanies either shirt. There is no question these are authentic Chicago Bulls shooting shirts, but whenever a garment is identified as being that of a specific player based on a black marker number notation, with no additional supporting documentation, there is obviously a great leap of faith involved. These do come from the collection of an extremely knowledgeable and advanced Jordan collector who has always believed these to be Jordan's. We're not saying that he is incorrect, only that, without additional proof, the leap of faith is great and must be emphasized. The highlight of the pair is a shooting shirt specially issued for use in the 1998 NBA Finals. The tricolor vest-style polyester shirt features the Bulls logo and the name "Chicago" embroidered on the front. An official "NBA Finals" patch appears on the upper right breast and an official NBA logo patch is located on the upper left breast. A "Nike 2XL" label and an "NBA Authentics" flag tag are situated on the left front tail. The number "23" is written in vintage black marker on the Nike label. 1998 marked Michael Jordan's sixth and final NBA Championship season with the Bulls. The garment is original and unaltered, displaying light wear. The second shirt dates to the 1997-1998 season. The black (front) and red (back) knit shirt, with white trim, features the name "Chicago" embroidered in white on the front and a large Chicago Bulls logo patch on the reverse. An NBA "50th Anniversary" patch appears on the left sleeve. A "Champion XXL" label is located on the left front tail, upon which appears the number "23" written in vintage black marker. A wash tag situated on the interior left seam bears the handwritten notations "3P" and "B4" (meaning unknown). The shirt is original and unaltered, displaying light wear. Jordan won his sixth World Championship with the Bulls in 1997-98. MEARS does not assign numerical grades to shooting shirts of this style, with player identification in marker only, and has defined the status of both as "Authentic." LOA from Troy Kinunen/MEARS.
